Walked Upon a Sea;  Raised Lazarus

Mr. Meherally attempts, in this section, to dismiss the divinity of Jesus by claiming that His miracles did not prove that He was God because miracles were also performed by many of God's Prophets:

"And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea." (Matthew 14:25) "And he (Lazarus) that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes ..." (John 11:44) Perceived by the "man of extraordinary faith": Only God can walk on the sea and raise the dead.

Answer No. 14 Performance of extraordinary miracles is not the litmus test for being God. If that shall be the criteria then we should be ready to acknowledge many more Miracle performing Gods.

1. Prophet Joshua commanded the Sun and the Moon to stop for one whole day. Moved a shadow of the sun-dial ten degrees backward (Joshua 10:13 and 2 Kings 20:10).

2. Prophet Elisha brought back to life a dead son of a Shunammite woman. Resurrected himself. After being dead and buried, he stood up on his feet. Healed a Syrian named Naaman of leprosy (2 Kings 4:35; 13:21 and 5:14).

3. Prophet Ezekiel made dry bones come together, grow flesh, cover with skin and come to life. (Ezekiel 37:3-10).

4. Prophet Elijah brought back to life a son of a widow. Made a bowl of flour and a jar of oil, inexhaustible for days. (1 Kings 17:22 and 14).

Many people throughout history, and even today, claim to have messages from God. God's Prophets proved their credibility, as well as the credibility of their revelations, through performing miracles and uttering prophecies - detailed predictions of future events which could be tested for their authenticity. It must also be noted here that Muhammad is claimed to be a Prophet by Muslims in spite of the fact that he DID NOT perform any miracles and gave no prophecies, at least none that came true.

The miracles performed by Jesus proves that He and His message are from God. The proof for the belief that Jesus was God is not derived from His miracles alone, but from many other verses in the Bible.

Study Supportive Passage: "...Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through him in your midst..." (Acts 2:22). God was the Master Performer and Jesus was His medium.

Lets us read this passage in context:

Acts 2:22-25

"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David said about him: "`I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Does Mr. Meherally believe this passage now?
