Due to the Muhammad cartoon incidents, I want to point to the following page with links to many relevant articles on the topic: Is Islam Above Criticism?

I found that humor in religious matters is a rather rare thing among Muslims. Definitely on Islamic web pages. But everything is so much easier if we can lighten up a bit and don't take ourselves so overly serious. Yes, we are talking about serious matters, yes, let us apply all our mind and heart to it. But I am convinced that God is far more pleased with us if we are able to laugh at our own imperfections, knowing that the ultimate truth belongs to God alone and each of us only has a small piece of it.

In this spirit I hope that these collected "humor pages" will help to relax the atmosphere of our dialog. Too often Muslim - Christian interaction is far too tense. Let us remind each other that we are all human and let us laugh together. When we see each other as brothers in infirmity, maybe the danger of becoming "enemies" has at least diminished.

Yes, atheists have humor too, but interestingly a lot of their humor seems to depend on the existence of Christianity. Otherwise, it would be quite a sad group of people...
